Covid-19 Update: Reuniting Redeemer Church

Beginning August 23 and for the foreseeable future, we are returning to ONE SUNDAY SERVICE AT 10:00 AM. We will gather IN PERSON at our church building and our service will be LIVE-STREAMED simultaneously.

We believe this move to reunite the church will serve to gather all of our members for the same worship service, whether in person or online, allowing for all to sing together, hear the same announcements and sermon, and share communion as one body.

Each service will continue to be a one hour “modified” service (detailed in our previous updates) with no children’s ministry. Below are a few reminders about our core convictions, which have guided us through each phase of reopening and will continue to. And we also have included the requirements for our indoor services below.

Our Core Convictions:

  • The people of God are meant to gather together in person to worship God, receive the preaching of God’s word, participate in the sacraments, exercise spiritual gifts,  and communicate the love of God to each other (Heb. 2:12, Psalm 35:18, Psalm 40:9, 1 Cor. 14:26, Heb. 10:24-25)
  • We are committed to listening to and following the Holy Spirit who leads, speaks, and wisely directs through a variety of means (Gal. 5:25).
  • We will continue to care about and steward the safety and health of our members and visitors during this world-wide pandemic. (1 Peter 5:2-3, Acts 20:28, Prov. 27:23)
  • We will continue to seek to love our city and our neighbor as ourselves by cooperating in the efforts to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus in our community (Jer. 29:7, Mark 12:30-31).
  • We will lead towards and fight for unity in the body (Eph. 4:3, John 17:21-23) knowing that every person and every conscience will approach reopening differently.  We will demonstrate faith by providing services for those who are willing to gather; and we will demonstrate caution by providing continued online ministry and gatherings for those who will worship at home (Rom. 14:23).
  • Evaluation:  Our plan will follow a “Phase +14” idea.  This will allow for at least 14 days to closely observe and evaluate of the impact of each new phase.  We are committed to evaluating the results of our gatherings as well as the data from our community, state, and country.  If circumstances change such that we must take steps backward, we will be ready to take those steps in humility (Prov. 22:3, 27:12).

Guidelines for Indoor Gatherings:

  • Our gathering spaces will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized prior to and after services.
  • The outside doors will be opened for you as you enter, and the inside doors to the auditorium will remain open.
  • The lobby will have hand sanitizer on tables and will serve as an “overflow” room if needed.
  • WE ARE REQUIRING THAT FACE MASKS BE WORN INSIDE THE BUILDING for safety and concern for others, especially during singing
  • The auditorium will have approximately 500 chairs set up, with 6-7 feet between rows.
  • We require that you sit and remain as a family unit throughout the service, six feet apart from other families. NOTE: Four chairs = Six feet.
  • Attention and care will need to be given by families with children for both safety and appropriate social distancing
  • We ask that you also observe social distancing throughout our entire indoor gathering
  • Once the service has completed, please plan to exit the building for fellowship outside (this will also give us a chance to clean between services).
  • We ask that you refrain from all physical contact with others (hugs / handshakes, etc.)
  • We will not pass offering plates, but will have a box for in-person giving available in the back of the auditorium
  • The Youth Room will serve as an “overflow” room for restless children
  • The restrooms and nursing moms room will be accessible
  • The rest of the building will remain closed and classrooms will be locked

While wearing face masks indoors may not be your preference, we hope the instinct and opportunity to love and serve others will guide us; and we will monitor the necessity of face masks as we progress. Finally, as has been the case in the previous stages, if you have ANY SYMPTOMS connected with Covid-19 please refrain from gatherings at the church. And if you become infected, please let the pastors know so that we can pray, care for you and determine what to do regarding our gatherings.

See you Sunday, Lord willing!

Covid-19: Reopening Redeemer Church

REDEEMER CHURCH:  PLAN TO REOPEN

The Pastors of Redeemer Church are excited to announce that we are planning for a phased reopening and will begin to gather again soon for in-person worship. Following best practices, we will do this in THREE PHASES.  Below are our core convictions regarding this process, what you can expect as we go forward, and the details of Phase 1.  We will release the details and guidelines for Phase 2 and Phase 3 as we get closer to launching these phases.  We believe this phased approach will give us the opportunity to begin to regather, as well as the ability to wisely evaluate the results along the way.   You can also watch this video announcement as well.

What to expect going forward:

  • We will continue to LIVESTREAM our Sunday morning service at least throughout all three phases of reopening.  You can expect a Sunday gathering online similar to our current online services.
  • We will continue a MODIFIED SERVICE for the first 2 phases that will include:  An approximately one-hour service, appropriate emphasis on social distancing, no passing of materials or offering plates, no food or coffee service, minimal use of service teams and NO CHILDRENS MINISTRY.
  • You can expect OPTIONS.  Our goal is to provide various entry points for regathering that will accommodate different levels of comfort and precaution.

REDEEMER CHURCH:  PHASE 1

We will continue to conduct our Sunday worship gathering online via Facebook Live.

Our church building will remain closed to all ministries and gatherings with the exception of essential personnel.

Community Groups will continue to meet via Zoom until Phase 2.

REDEEMER CHURCH:  PHASE 2

  • We are required to social distance coming and going from our vehicles
  • We recommend wearing face masks coming and going from your vehicle
  • We will not be providing chairs; please bring your own chairs, beach chairs, or blanket
  • There will be space on both the grass and parking lot for seating, as well as standing room
  • We require that you sit and remain as a family unit throughout the service
  • Attention and care will need to be given by families with children for both safety and appropriate social distancing
  • We ask that you remain at least 6 feet from others during the service and observe social distancing throughout our outdoor gathering

  • The building will remain closed with the exception of restrooms, with limited accessibility
  • Children will not be allowed to use the restroom inside the building without a parent
  • Though we will be outdoors, no pets allowed.

Community Groups during Phase 2:

Beginning June 1, we are authorizing our Community Groups to resume in-person meetings at the discretion of the Community Group Leader.  We will rely on each Community Group leader to determine the details of CG gatherings in light of what is most advisable for each group.

We have also encouraged our Community Group leaders to offer an online connection through Zoom for all who would prefer to attend CG from home.

Redeemer Building / Facilities during Phase 2:

Our building and indoor facilities will remain closed to regularly scheduled ministries and gatherings during Phase 1. Exceptions will include:

The Church Office:

  • Our employees will be able to work at the office and within the building during Phase 1.  We will continue to practice social distancing and recommended cleaning practices.  However, appointments will continue off-site, via telephone or online.

Outdoor facilities / property:

  • 316 will utilize our outdoor space for outside gatherings, while the building will remain closed.
  • Community Groups that utilize the building will be able to gather outdoors on our property, while the building will remain closed.

Food Pantry:

  • As soon as the Southeastern Food Bank adjusts back to normal, the Food Pantry will be allowed to service our food pantry families at the discretion and direction of the team.

Online Service:

  • We will continue to utilize a small team within the building to serve the church with an online service.

REDEEMER CHURCH:  PHASE 3

As previously mentioned, we will release the full details of Phase 3 as we get closer and upon evaluation.  However, if all goes according to our current plan, here is what you can expect in Phase 3:

We will be continue to offer TWO Sunday services starting July 12 continuing through August 2, but will move these services INSIDE OUR AUDITORIUM.

  • Both services will continue to be a MODIFIED SERVICE in the building that will include:  A one-hour service, emphasis on social distancing, no passing of materials or offering plates, no food or coffee service, minimal use of service teams, NO CHILDRENS MINSITRY.
  • We will limit the number of seats in the auditorium to around 300 CHAIRS, with groups of chairs spaced 6 feet apart.
  • We will thoroughly clean and sanitize in-between services.
  • We will livestream the entire service for those at home.

Forthcoming will be many more details about PHASE 3, including requirements and guidelines that will govern our Sunday gathering inside the building.  We will also provide updates about ministries and gatherings within the building during the week.

Finally, our last step will look closer to a scenario where we are fully “back”.  We have a number of hurdles to clear before this seems possible, but we pray for God’s mercy on our community and country this summer, for the sake of individuals and families, but also for a full and safe reopening of our lives, economy, and churches.

We hope this plan is encouraging to you.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at church@redeemer.live.

CONCLUSION

One day we will all tell the stories about this season to our children and grandchildren.  Our prayer is we will be able to share memories and testimonies of the Lord’s great faithfulness to each of us; to lead us, meet us, protect us, and to unite and build us as a church during this time of trial and uncertainty.

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”  Ephesians 3:20–21

We look forward to all that is ahead,

Redeemer Church Pastoral team

Covid-19 Update: 3/28

We hope you are doing well! Below are a few items as we close out this weekend.

Building Closed:

We want to let you know that OUR BUILDING REMAINS CLOSED AND OUR GATHERINGS AT OUR BUILDING REMAIN CANCELED for now. We see this as an extended opportunity to honor the recommendations of our government and health professionals, as well as an opportunity to “love our neighbor as ourselves” by practicing social distancing.

Online gathering:

We posted an update video today about how we will continue to gather online. Our service will begin tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. on our Facebook Page (click here). We hope you can join us for worship, some announcements and for the preaching of God’s word.

Redeemer Kids:

While, we are not providing a “Children’s Ministry” online at this time, we want you to know we are going to continue to involve our children in our online Sunday service as much as we can. Our services will not be more than one hour, and though the sermons will be directed to the adults, we want to provide two “Sermon Pages” we hope will serve to engage our kids and involve them in note taking. The Village Church in TX has produced these sheets, and we love them! There is one for elementary and one for middle school kids and you should be able to download and print as many as you need for your family.

You can download the “Sermon Notes For Elementary Kids” sheet here!

You can download the “Middle School Sermon Guide” sheet here!

Once you click the above, you can print straight from your browser. If you don’t have access to a printer, let us know and we will get you some copies in the mail this week.

We hope to see you online tomorrow!

Redeemer Church Pastors and Staff

Building Closure: We want to let you know that OUR BUILDING REMAINS CLOSED AND OUR GATHERINGS AT OUR BUILDING REMAIN CANCELED for now. COVID-19 Update (3/17)

FOOD PANTRY WILL SERVE REGULAR SCHEDULE, ALL OTHER GATHERINGS AND EVENTS, INCLUDING COMMUNITY GROUPS, CANCELLED

As you know, this continues to be a situation in which we are all hearing daily updates from authorities. We will plan to continue according to the building being closed for all events, gatherings, and ministries.
One exception to this will be our Food Pantry, which will plan to operate on a regular schedule this evening from 5:30 to 6:45pm. The team will take added precautions and set up for a “grab and go” distribution. So if you have need of foodstuffs or regularly utilize the Food Pantry, we plan to serve you this evening.

From the Food Pantry Team:
“DUE TO THE RECENT HEALTH CRISIS WE ARE MODIFYING OUR PROCEDURES FOR THIS EVENING. PLEASE QUE YOUR CAR AT THE FRONT DOOR  AND WAIT IN YOUR CAR. SOMEONE WILL COME OUT TO CHECK YOU IN AND BRING FOOD TO YOUR CAR.PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE EARLIER THAN 5:15PM.”

Community Groups:
One addition to our cancellations is our Community Groups. In light of the CDC recommendation not to gather in groups of 10 or more, we will plan to temporarily cancel our Community Group gatherings out of an abundance of caution until we hear differently. Having said this, we want to encourage our Community Groups to be in touch with each other via phone, text, email, social media, etc., in order to support each other through this strange season. If you are aware of concerns or needs within your group, please get in touch with your Community Group Leader or one of the pastors.

Please check out this update video https://www.facebook.com/redeemerchesapeake/videos/674289706674994/

Finally, let’s continue to be in prayer for our community, country and the world. We are called to love the Lord with all our hearts, to love our neighbors as ourselves and to trust the Lord at all times.

May the Lord lead us,

Redeemer Church Pastors and Staff

COVID-19 Update (3/13)

ALL REDEEMER CHURCH GATHERINGS, EVENTS AND MINISTRIES CANCELLED.

This really is a fast-moving, situation and we have received new data. As we mentioned in our last post, once the Chesapeake Public Schools close, our policy is to close our building and cancel all events. Normally this is weather related (snowstorms, hurricanes, etc). But in this case, this is a health emergency. While maintaining our prerogative to make decisions apart from government mandates, we believe a way to honor our governing authorities includes abiding by reasonable requests for public safety.

We also believe a very specific and practical way to “love our neighbor as ourselves” is to abide by recommendations made in light of public health. Therefore, we are closing the building and suspending all gatherings, events and ministries at the church until further notice and will provide a gathering online via a livestream service on Sunday morning. We anticipate this suspension will be temporary, and we will look forward to resuming our gatherings. But until then, we recommend the following:

  1. Continue to stay safe and abide by all CDC recommendations for health and hygiene.
  2. On Sunday morning, tune in to our Redeemer Facebook page for a livestream of a few announcements and updates and the preaching of God’s word. Streaming will begin at 9:50 a.m. and our “online service” will start at 10:00 a.m.
  3. Please continue to to check our website for updates. www.redeemer.live
  4. If you have any questions or needs or prayer requests over the next few weeks, please let us know at church@redeemer.live.

Finally, this event will provide opportunities for us to love and serve those in our community. Let’s be mindful of those who might need help, those who might need to remain at home but need groceries or supplies, and those for whom this school closure may present hardships. Now is the time to trust the Lord, to be safe, but will also be a time for the church to rise up and love and serve those around us.

May the Lord lead us,

COVID-19 update (3/13)

In light of the increase in the news and social media coverage over the past week regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our country, we would like to inform you about how we are planning to proceed this weekend at Redeemer Church in order to prioritize the health of our congregation.  Our desire is to provide and to protect.  For those who desire, we want to provide the option to continue to meet as a church.  And yet, our deepest concern will be the protection of our members utilizing an “abundance of caution” as we proceed.

Personal:

Regardless of our plan and activities as a church, we highly recommend you abide by all instruction for personal safety and hygiene recommended by the CDC.  If you are elderly or immunocompromised, please take all precautions necessary for your own health and safety.  Those guidelines are available here:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/workplace-school-and-home-guidance.pdf

We plan to abide by the precautions suggested regarding personal contact and public spaces this weekend and in the days to come.

Sunday Gathering:

As of now, we ARE planning to gather this Sunday morning for a modified service with the following details:

  • Our Sunday Service will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • If you do not feel comfortable gathering, please don’t come.  You can connect with our service via our livestream starting around 10:20 on our FB page here.
  • There will be NO CHILDCARE this Sunday.  We are planning to close and lock our Children’s Ministry spaces for the purpose of a deep clean in the week to come.
  • Our Baby Dedication scheduled for this Sunday is postponed
  • The Youth Room will be available as an Overflow room and we will livestream the sermon there.
  • We will not have a time of greeting, nor a break.  As a precaution, we encourage you to limit physical contact such as hand-shakes and hugs as we greet each other.
  • We will not pass the offering plates, but will have our baskets set up in the back of the auditorium for giving.  Instruction will be provided for giving on Sunday.  You may also want to consider giving online here:  Give Online
  • Our building will be cleaned prior to and following our service.  The cleaning will include the sanitizing of all door handles, rails, surfaces and counters.
  • We will also have hand sanitizer available in the lobby and encourage regular hand-washing and all proper coughing and sneezing etiquette.
  • If you have any symptoms of illness, we ask that you refrain from attending and instead follow us online from your home.

Weekend Ministries:

As of now, our weekend ministries, which consist of smaller groups of people, will continue with the following instructions:

  • Our Sunday classes will proceed (at 9:00 a.m.) with NO childcare provided this week
  • 316 will gather for all who want to come, but will not serve food or drink.
  • We encourage all the above recommendations regarding personal hygiene, hand washing and personal contact.

Next Steps:

It is our church policy to close our building if the government mandates closure and if the Chesapeake School District closes.  We will abide by this policy and if either occur, we will close our building and all events and ministries until further notice, and will broadcast a Sunday service online.

If no such closures occur, we will evaluate our plan for next weekend by Thursday, March 19.

Communication:

We plant to provide regular updates along the way, so that you know what is going on.  We will post any and all updates on our website blog and on our Facebook page.  Please check in for updates.

Brothers and Sisters, we are living in an uncertain time and we don’t know what the future holds; but we do know that our sovereign God is ruling over this pandemic and encourages us to “be anxious for nothing.”  It is wise to be cautious and to prepare, but not to fear.  We hope the Lord will keep our community safe, will extend his mercy to the sick and infected, and will continue to use His church and the hope we have in Christ and in the gospel in the days to come.  You have our commitment as pastors to pray for our church, to be conscious of your health and safety, and to provide whatever help we can as a church in the days to come.  And in all that we do as we walk through this pandemic, let’s love the Lord with all our hearts and love our neighbors as ourselves.
