We Need Your Help!

We need your help! We are very close to being able to close the deal on the land across the street from the church. The final step is for the Chesapeake City Council to vote in favor of the rezoning the developer is asking for.

The meeting will be November 15 at 6 PM at City Hall.

We’ve texted and asked a bunch of people to come and speak in favor of the project. This is very important to get 20+ people to come and speak. Chances of everyone speaking is slim, but we need to show up with numbers. If you can speak in favor we’ll hold a brief meeting November 11 in the Quad after church.

Another big group of people we need are people to just come and be a physical presence of support at City Hall for the meeting. If you can be there at 6 PM on November 15, please respond to the text you got to let us know. The more people the better.

Then finally, if you can’t be there, you can still help. Could you please email our city council members and ask them to support our project? When you email, be sure you identify that you are a Chesapeake resident, give them your address. Reference the project number, PLN-REZ-2022-002. Some talking points you can use are below. You can send one email to all of the addresses at one time.

Talking Points

  • The rezoning has full staff support.
  • The rezoning passes all levels of service required by the city (Roads, Schools, Sewer).
  • The project has a positive fiscal impact to the city…eg. more revenue to the city versus cost to the city. On the whole it could bring in upwards to 3 million a year in property taxes and over 30 million over 10 years.
  • There is a huge need for affordable housing and overall housing stock in Chesapeake.
  • The developers are proffering to build a turn lane extension that will improve the traffic backups on Elbow Road. The road conditions will likely not improve until a developer does something with this property.
  • The landscaping and design of the neighborhood will elevate the entire corridor.
  • Dragas is a local builder with a strong reputation for quality construction.

Full details on the project are available on the city website.
