After considering the beasts last week, we took a look at the second half of Daniel 7 on Sunday. In the second half of the chapter, Daniel sees not only the nature of evil, but also the sovereign God on his throne, his judgment, and the resurrected and ascended Christ. Daniel records a breathtaking vision of the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man. Through the kingdom given to the Son of Man, the Ancient of Days brings an end to evil on the earth.
Through this “theology in picture,” Eric pointed us to Jesus. Jesus, the true image of God and anointed king, gave his life to defeat death and sin and the devil. Although he never referred to himself as “messiah,” there are 78 times in the Gospels where Jesus refers to himself as “the Son of Man.” As he stood before the high priest, Jesus looked forward to the vision of Daniel 7, saying, “you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven” (Matthew 26:64).
This gives us hope for a lifetime. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God, sovereign over the kingdom he has been given.
