Discussion Questions for Romans 9:1-6

On Sunday we moved into the second half of Paul’s Letter to the Romans. In the first six verses, Paul lays out the heart of what he wants to address in chapter 9. He recognizes that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of his national Jewish history. He values the vital place the Jewish people played in God’s plan. But he is troubled by the rejection Jesus received from his own people. However, Paul’s heart is to demonstrate that God’s word in the gospel is bearing fruit according to God’s plan.

How would you describe Paul’s sense of connection with his own ethnicity?

Is there anyone for whom you feel this kind of longing to know Christ?

When you think about this person (these people), where do you find hope for their salvation?

How does God’s unfailing word give hope to your praying?
